Elsu (The Soaring Falcon)
The steel-based city of Mildar lost its luster when the rich mines were entirely depleted.
Mildar’s industrial growth had brought prosperity, but as the mines were now exhausted, business decreased. As they fled the city, opportunistic industrialists extracted the last of the resources, leaving a mountain of industrial garbage behind. Human nature dictates expediency, which explains why residents moved to other cities in the wake of the economic downturn and the sudden environmental shift. Naturally, a few obstinate individuals remained, and Elsu was one of them.
Elsu had a close connection to Mildarian because she was a local there. Within a short time of his birth, his parents perished in a disease. Elsu was reared in an orphanage thanks to Mildar’s quick development and its residents’ access to numerous social benefits. He wanted to serve the city by becoming a “City Guardian.”
Elsu was a stellar student who also had exceptional archery skills, and he was honored as a City Guardian. Even though he always maintained a serious demeanor, his teammates adored and respected him. Throughout the conflict, his shots were always on target. Elsu’s special squad performed all military operations in just three years with good results, and they frequently received accolades from the Federal Council.
The Federal Council therefore issued an order to transfer this excellent special unit to perform more challenging scouting operations beyond enemy lines when the authority decided to abandon Mildar. The second Darkness Invasion was coming to an end, and the Federation of the Free, one of the Allied Powers, had devoted all of its resources to fighting it.
“This conflict is the biggest in human history! We’ll send those filthy creatures back to the depths with the help of our comrades! Every soldier enlisted in the war in good spirits and to fight for honor and glory.
everyone but Elsu.
“Are you sure about what you’re doing? View the badge you have on your breast! You are turning it traitor! Elsu appeared defeated as his allies criticized him, saying, “I have pledged to protect this city until I die. Despite the fact that it is already in ruins, I shall maintain my word. I’m sorry, but I’m afraid I have to stop fighting with you.
Most of the soldiers were unable to understand Elsu’s emotional connection to the city. Elsu insisted on leaving the military despite being called a “coward,” “chickenhearted,” or “draft dodger.” Elsu watched his comrades leave Mildar in a furious manner.
“You’re not required to do this. This is it for Mildar. Elsu was addressed by Moren, who remained as well. Moren visited his home town of Mildar after the Fort Alchemy War.
“So, why did you return? ” enquired Elsu.
You’re young, whereas I am. Ask me why, but don’t. Moren motioned with his hand before leaving.
Elsu observed his pals leave and reflected on the fact that everyone has a cause.
But if they ever find themselves in jeopardy, I will do everything in my power to keep them safe.
